Cleaning with Essential Oils

I snagged these recipe's from the doTERRA Blog Thought I would share them, I haven't tried these exact one's yet, but have used some essential oils to help with my cleaning.  Lemon is great for shining your stainless steel, just mix it with a little water in a spray bottle, and wala, you have a great little cleaner, plus it smells fantastic!!  I have also mixed oils in with my laundry detergent, some lavender for the sheets, some lemon or lime or grapefruit to my stuff to give me a little extra pep in my step as my day goes on.  So many ways to use our oils, I love it!!

All-Purpose Cleaner
2 c. vinegar
2 c. distilled water
10 drops Lemon Essential Oil
Tip: Shake well before each use.

Mirror or Window Cleaner
1 1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 c. purified or distilled water
8 drops ANY Citrus Essential Oil of choice
Shake well before use.

Mold and Mildew Cleaner
Pour 2 c. distilled white vinegar into a spray bottle. (OR combine one part 3% hydrogen peroxide with 2 parts water).
Add 2 drops Lemon Essential Oil and 2 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
Shake well and spray on area. Leave on area for half an hour, then rinse.

Thought I would share what I found, they sound fantastic, I have all these oils so I may just make thse up and see how they work, I will report back, once I find some time to get my cleaning done!!

SUNSHINE WHERE ARE YOU?

I have noticed for myself that there is a direct corrilation between my physical energy levels and the amount of sunshine outside.  On Monday for instance it was a fantastically sunny day, and I woke up at 5:00AM, yes you read that correctly... went to work, and got off at 3:00PM.  Typically I would be exhausted at this point, but my kids and I came home and cleaned out the car, and then came in and cleaned up in the house, jumped on the trampoline, and then made dinner.  I felt great!  Today the sunshine has hidden itself behind many clouds that are pouring out just enough snow to make it icky out.  I feel lower in energy especially this morning, but I forced myself on the treadmill and went for about 4 miles.  After that I was feeling better, but still find myself less energized than when I have the sunshine.  So here are my tips for those of you who need the sun to operate...
  • EXERCISE!!!  this is key, this gets the endorphins flowing so you feel better, and gives your body a boost.
  • Essential oils - Peppermint, any citrus oil such as lemon, orange, grapefruite or lime, jasmine, and lavender.  Yes lavender will help you sleep, but it will also help you if you need a boost, it is like a camelion, it changes with what you need.
  • Water - just mild dehydration can leave you feeling sluggish and low on energy.
  • Herbal supplements - St. Johns Wart
  • Affirmations - think anything positive, pay attention to your thoughts, and turn the negative one's around!!
Hope this helps you defeat the lack of sun today, and hopefully it will be back soon!!

How do I use my stones?

There are many different ways to use gemstones, among these are:

        Bathing with the stones
Drinking water that the stones have soaked in
Wearing the stones such as jewelry (my personal favorite)
Placing the stones on the part of the body that is hurting
        Carrying a stone with you
                  –    Sleep with it under your pillow

More Goals

Okay so those of you who have not set those goals yet, here is some more information on what those goals should be.

Goals should be unique to you - make sure it is what you want for yourself and not what someone else wants for you.  If not it won't last.

Goals should be exact and time specific - so set a date that you want to accomplish a certain measurable thing.  Such as I want to loose 5 pounds in 3 weeks, or I want to run a marathon in 1 year, something you can measure.

Goals should come from within, and should be about you.  When you decide to loose weight because you compare yourself with a slender model this is not positive because it is outwardly focused.  It is like the lady that takes in a picture of a hair cut that she likes, like Meg Ryan's for instance, well even if the same hair stylist were to cut her hair it would still look nothing like Meg Ryan because the person is not Meg Ryan, they would not have the same hair texture, facial features and what not....  Make sure it is an inward goal because you want to feel good about you.

Goals should be realistic - make sure it is something that is attainable so as not to discourage yourself.  Whatever it is you are attempting to accomplish or change, it is not going to happen overnight, be realistic with yourself.

Goals should be harmonious with your beliefs and values - like I said in my post the other day.

Goals should be written and read often.  If you write them it becomes something.  This kind of concrete focus allows you to really see and visualize what you want.

Break down your goals so that you have mini goals along the way, and reward yourself for accomplishing them.

Visualize what it is you want, this is so powerful that many of the top athletes and business people do it frequently.

Say it, by verbalizing it outloud to yourself it gives you tremendous power.  It also keeps you focused, and hopefully positive.

Hope you can set and accomplish something great.

Values & Beliefs

I guess I should have written this prior to my post on goals, but it applies as well.  I have been doing some deep searching about myself lately, those of  you closest to me are probably sick of hearing about it, but it has been very theraputic to have you listen so thank you.  I think before we can really decide what our goals are in life, we have to know what we believe and value.  Some of my beliefs are
  • that families are truly important
  • that mothers can help to shape the beliefs and values of her children
  • that we are here for a purpose
  • we can do anything we set our mind to do
  • our bodies can do incredible things if we fuel them and care for them correctly
Things that I value or am greatful for are:
  • my family (husband, children, parents, siblings, in-laws, grandmas, etc.)
  • my friends
  • my home
  • fitness
  • education
  • health
  • church/spiritual moments
  • but mostly the people who surround me that support me!!
So with these values if you have read some of my goals, they kind of fall into line, it is important to know what you value and believe as you set your goals so that you make sure your goals are in line with those beliefs.  If our goals and our beliefs do not match we will not be able to accomplish them easily as it is not something that we truly believe.

Stress..... YIKES!!!

How does stress change our lives?  Well it causes problems, it causes our bodies to produce cortisol, and adrenaline, and it wears us out.  Cortisol causes us to hold weight around our midsections... no good can come from this.  Adrenaline causes us to have a burst of energy to get through the crisis, and then leaves us feeling exhausted, no good can come from this either.  Some stress cannot be avoided, but there is some that can, and some ways of dealing with it that can help us to help our bodies.
  • Prepare for your day ahead the night before so you don't start your day in a stressed out panic rushing for work or school.
  • Keep simple healthy snacks at work, in the car, in the diaper bag or purse - this way when you do feel a little anxious you are not found munching down a greasey burger and fries.  The healthy food will help you to fuel your body in a way that will help it process through stress.  Plus isn't being a little overweight stress enough!
  • Have a simple at home fitness option that you can do to relieve stress.  Exercise is a great way to work off stress.
  • Look at your goals once a day (it will help you to see the light at the end of the tunnel, or give you purpose to your day, to help you make healthy choices.)
  • Set up auto bill pay with your bank so you are not late on payments and can keep your credit score high (bills in general just give me stress, so the less I have to think about them and worry about them the better)
  • Set e-mail reminders of important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, car maintnenance schedules, home repair items, routine appointments such as doctors, hairdressers, dentists.  If you are on yahoo, you can actually set your calander to e-mail you the reminders so you don't have to remember to look at the calander, just your e-mail.
  • Listen to relaxing and motivational music.
  • Set up and maintain a filing system and do it once a week or once a month so you are not overwhelmed and stressed out with paperwork.
  • Start an accomplishments list - both for ones that you worked towards as well as surprise breakthroughs.
  • Drink chamomile tea - this is supposed to help you relax and de-stress.
  • Use calming essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, geranium, and rose.
  • Do something for you - take your "ME TIME"
  • Get a massage
  • Get your feet zoned
  • Exercise - oh I already said that earlier... well that is because it is a huge part of stress relief!!
  • SLEEP - this is a big part as well, if you are not getting proper sleep you body will be worn down and unable to fight the after affects of stress
  • Meditate- to me this means a couple of things, it can be through prayer, it can be through a mind clearing session, it can be to music... but it will help.
Did you know that according to The American Institue of Stress it is estimated that 75% to 90%  of all visits to health-care practitioners are prompted by stress disorders... hmmmm That is a TON...  that leave 10-25% that are actually problems that might not be as avoidable, but to know that 75% - 90% of our health problems are avoidable if we could learn to better manage our stress if not eliminate it.

I read in "The Spark" by Chris Downie that "Just five minutes of stress can leave your immune system vulnerable for nearly six hours."  Are you kidding me - no wonder we are so susceptible to illness.  Learn to manage your stress so you are not among these statistics.

Goals

I was reading the other day and came across this great quote from the philosopher Nietzche, "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." I thought this was so profound. Now here is the big question Why are we here? I believe it is to better ourselves no matter our circumstances. So how do we better ourselves, live each day better than the last, set goals and then mini stepping stones on how it is we will achieve these goals. Some of my goals are pretty obvious considering the stuff I write about, but being healthy and fit, being a good mom/wife/daughter/sister/friend, and learning and sharing that knowledge with those who are important to me. Okays so theses are pretty broad goals, but each of them come with a little more directness.

I would like to loose some fat and gain some muscle, and fit into a certain size jean.

I would like to make sure I make time always for the people I hold important and maintain good healthy relationships.

I would like to find the time each day to read or take a class to learn a little more about anything.

These are the larger goals, but then I have ministeps to begin to achieve each of them.

- drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
- exercise at least 3 days a week
- cut back on candy and soda if not eliminate them, well mostly anyway.

- make sure to spend 20 minutes a day reading to my kids
- make time each day to play with my kids
- make a phone call to one person each day to find out how their day is

- read at least a few pages each day of something I can learn from
- take a class on something at least once a month
- Journal what I am learning and doing so I can continue to grow and learn.

What are some of your goals, have you taken the time to really understand why you are here? What is it you want to accomplish in our short time here on earth? I hope I have motivated you to search, and find some goals. It will help to write them down where you can read them often and remind yourself that you have a purpose, and a plan. It is such a sense of accomplishment to achieve a dream or a goal.

Power of positive thought

I was having the realization today that our thoughts are so powerful.  We can lend them to the power of the positive or negative, both can happen very easily.  When I am having a bad day my thoughts seem to be nothing but negative and dark.  When I am having a good day my thoughts tend to be positive and happy.  Is it my thoughts that are creating my mood and my experiences or is it my experiences and mood creating my thoughts.  Interesting to think about.  I have read several books on the power of positive thinking, and affirmations, and how emotions both the positive ones and the negative ones can change our lives, even in the most devastating of circumstances.  If you look at amazing people such as Christopher Reeve; who became a quadriplegic in 95 and by steady work and perseverance and positive thinking had regained sensation in 70% of his body in less than 10 years.  Reeve said "You can do anything you think you can.  Either you vegetate and look out a window, or activate and try to effect change." Can you imagine if he had just given up and lost all hope, how sad of a life would that be, but he didn't he pushed through even one of the toughest challenges I can imagine, and look what it got him.  Remember that you are in this life and you are creating it, don't just stand by and let it create you.  Keep your thoughts positive and happy and be grateful for all that you have because it can make your life experience or it can break it.  I know that if we keep our thoughts and attitudes positive about anything that we want to do we will accomplish it.

Essential Oils

Okay so I love my Essential oils, if you have not noticed. I think they are fantastic. I recently ordered a fantastic little book that talks about how essential oils work, what to do with them and how to blend them. The book is called, Aromatherapy Workbook, by Marcel Lavabre.  I think this book is a fantastic intro to oils, in addition to being a classic reference for those who are a little more well versed in oils.  Just wanted to share, for anyone who wants to increase their knowledge on essential oils.

More "Me Time"

Okay so after finishing the first set of vampire books I was recommended another, I am not really obsessed with vampires, but somehow I keep getting these recommendations, and they are great, so I will keep reading them I guess.  Just wanted to post about this other series, it is fantastic, and very strange at the same time.  I kept reading them telling my hubby how weird they were, but yet I couldn't seem to put them down either.  They are The House of Night series, and they were a great fun read.  I think they are supposed to be geared toward teens, but I felt that there were parts that were a little too adult for what I would want my teen reading.  Definitely recommend them for a college age and above. The books are about a teen girl who is marked to be a vampire, but somehow she has these special powers, that have been given to her from the vampire goddess nyx.  The books are a great story of her journey and the choices between good and evil, and the trials that come with life, and our choices.  Really great easy read.  The series is supposed to have 8 books from what I have heard, so there is still one left after the new one Burned comes out April 27.  Hope you can find some "me time" and read with me.

Positive Thought for the Day

I have the kindest and most helpful neighbors.

Pregnancy

I am hoping with some of my tips on fertility that I might have some readers who could finally be pregnant.   Here are a few tips to help you through the pregnancy and childbirth.  Unless previously zoned, do not zone in 1st trimester.

Trying to stay pregnant:  False unicorn prevents miscarriage.

Premature Labor:    Rub Lavender or Baby Me across the abdomen to slow or stop contractions.

Stretch marks:  Baby Me, lavender, or geranium oil added to carrier oil or Vitamin E and apply all over abdomen and hip area.

Morning sickness:  DigestZen (DoTERRA) Inside-out, Ez-Traveler, (Butterfly Express) Orange, Grapefruit, lemon or ginger.  Behind ears, smell.  Wild yam cream, vitamin B.  If Lemon oil works, it may indicate kidney stones.

Toxemia: Vitality (Butterfly Express), Cypress.  Dilute for massage; diffuse; inhale deeply.

Fenugreek herb, and fennel oil (not to be used more than 10 days in a row)—increases milk production when nursing.  Parsley herb & peppermint oil dries up milk.

Placenta Previa:  rub oils across the top of the belly to pull placenta up.

Postpartum Depression:  Whisper(DoTERRA) Heart Song, Tranquility, (Butterfly Express) wild yam cream to balance hormones.

Breach Position:  relax the abdominal muscles with a chakra clearing over the womb—counterclockwise.  Donna Eden says that the baby will follow the energies of the hand.

Child Birth

Five weeks before you deliver, start taking 5-W from Nature's Sunshine, it is supposed to help prepare that area, making childbirth easier.
Mineral water on perineum.  Do not zone until spotting has discontinued.  Liquid cayenne pepper will help stop bleeding.

Oils: Rose, Clary Sage, Millenia (after the placenta delivers—will close up the cervix!), Sweet Orange (calms nausea during transition).

Inducing labor

Rub Clary Sage oil on your abdomen to help start contractions.

Soak in a ginger bath to soften the cervix: ¼ cup ginger in a warm bath.

Eating Pineapple - helps to soften the cervix

Castor oil:  2 oz castor oil in orange juice—can make you sick and you may never want to drink orange juice again. (I would not recommend this as it may cause serious diarrhea)

Stimulate your nipples for 2 hours, have sex.

Me Time

Okay in my quest for a healthy lifestyle, I have found that I have to have some time for me.  I think "Me Time" is so important especially when life gets stressful.  One way of relaxing and combating stress is to take yourself away from it for a moment (even just 10 min or so). By removing yourself from the stress and doing something you enjoy you give your body a break from the adrenaline rush that you are on called life.

When I take my "Me Time" my focus lately has been reading and I have found some fantastic books, the first series that I stumbled on and read all of them within a matter of a couple months was The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series, by JR Ward, they have been a fun escape for me, but are very adult, so I would not recommend them to anyone who is not married.

Still it is a romance about a vampire society that lives among humans, and is fighting their enemy at the same time trying to build up their kingdom of vampires again.  Super addictive and fantastic.
The first of these books is Dark Lover, I think that the titles are super cheesey.   After reading them and finding that they are kinda naughty(thus the awful titles), but they are very intense with the story as well, which makes them so fun.

Book number 2 is Lover Eternal, probably one of my favorites, and it begins to unfold some more mystery behind all the vampire stuff.  I won't spoil it for you.  Each book is about a different character in the book and how they are involved within this little drama.

Book 3 is Lover Awakened, and is probably to me one of the saddest of all the stories, and is one about abuse.  I really liked all of these books so very much it is hard to say if one is my favorite.  But I think I really love book 4 Lover Revealed, partly cause it is about a human that has become a part of this vampire world, and how he adapts.  I loved this book.  Book 5 is called Lover Unbound, this one was kinda weird for me, but I won't ruin it by telling you why... It is still a great book, and a must read.  The next in the series is Lover Enshrined, this one was probably my least favorite, but it was one about addiction.  It was still a fantastic book, but if I had to pick my least favorite it would be this one, it seemed to drag out a bit. (still worth the read though)  The last one that is out is called Lover Avenged, and this is probably one of my favorites as well, as the story really starts to unfold with this book.  I have the next book #7 on pre-order with Amazon and am paciently waiting for April 27 to roll around so I can get the next book under way.  These books have been a wonderful escape for me, and have been a great "Me Time" read.  The author, JR Ward has a way of writing that just makes you feel part of the story somehow.  Again I would recommend these to anyone who is married and won't be offended by a little love scene here and there. (okay by a little I mean a big, she is pretty descriptive, at least I thought so).  I am not one to read dirty romance novels, and actually didn't realize this series was when someone recommended them to me as "The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series"  If I had read the titles I might have been aware before I purchased them.  But for one that does not read dirty romance novels, I would read these ones again.  Hope you can all find some "Me time" for yourselves, even if it isn't reading dirty novels, it is important to find some time to yourself to do something you enjoy.

Slim & Sassy

First I want to say I have purchased this and have been using it for about 3 days and so far I love it and can really notice a difference in my cravings in between meals.  DoTERRA recommends putting in 4 drops to 8 oz of water, I am putting in like 1, and noticing a difference.  It was too strong for me when I put in more, but each person has their own tastes and preferences.  Another added benefit is that it flavors my water delishiously, so that is fantastic as well.   Here is all the info from the DoTERRA website.

Product Description

dōTERRA’s Slim & Sassy Metabolic Blend is a proprietary formula of 100% pure CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils designed to help manage appetite between meals. Slim & Sassy includes a blend of grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger, and cinnamon essential oils. Just add 8 drops to 16 oz. of water (regular size bottle of water, use glass or stainless steel container) and drink between your healthy meals throughout the day to help manage hunger, calm your stomach, and lift your mood. The Slim & Sassy blend also makes a delicious and healthy flavored water for proper hydration during exercise or other activity. It has zero calories and is an excellent replacement for high-calorie beverages or for drinks that contain artificial sweeteners and colors.

Concept
A body that is trim and fit is not only attractive, but also supports a lifetime of energy and vitality, and can help prevent the accelerated onset of many degenerative diseases. Managing weight and healthy body composition is primarily a matter of expending more calories than we consume. Eating less food (quantity) and improving our food selections (quality) along with increasing physical activity is the best way to experience permanent and healthy weight loss.

Eating Less
Food can be both physically and emotionally pleasurable. When we are hungry, our bodies send powerful signals through various physiological pathways to let us know it is time to eat. When we respond by eating, equally powerful signals reward us for responding to our bodies’ desires. These signals are influenced over time by how much we eat, what we eat, and why we eat.
Most people in the developed world consume more calories than required for supporting healthy and vibrant life function. Reducing the amount of calories we consume when dieting can be difficult if our bodies are conditioned to high-calorie diets. Eating more healthy foods in smaller amounts throughout the day, using a dietary supplement of essential nutrients, and participating in a regular exercise program can help change unhealthy signals to eat more than we need or to eat for the wrong reasons.

Healthy Hydration
Many unhealthy “diet” potions use diuretics that cause the body to release water resulting in short-term weight loss, but also resulting in dehydration and other negative health consequences. Drinking water regularly throughout the day can help support efforts to eat less calories. Proper hydration is also essential for metabolic functions throughout the body and supports cellular energy and activity.

Slim & Sassy™ Metabolic Blend
dōTERRA’s Slim & Sassy Metabolic Blend is a proprietary formula of 100% pure CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils designed to help manage appetite between meals. The Slim & Sassy blend also makes a delicious and healthy flavored water for proper hydration during exercise and other activity. It has zero calories and is an excellent replacement for high-calorie beverages or for drinks that contain artificial sweeteners and colors.

Who Should Use this Product? Slim & Sassy Metabolic Blend is formulated for anyone participating in a healthy weight loss program of eating less and increasing physical activity. It can also be used anytime to make a refreshing and healthy flavored water alternative to high-sugar or artificial sweetened juices and beverages.

Directions for Use Add 8 drops of Slim & Sassy Metabolic Blend to 16 oz. of water. Sip your flavored water before, between, and after each of your healthy meals throughout the day. Slim & Sassy also makes an excellent addition to water bottles (use glass or stainless steel containers) or hydration packs during exercise and outdoor activity. Slim & Sassy can be used aromatically by diffusing in your home or personal office space or by simply applying a few drops to the palms, then cupping your hands and breathing deeply for a moment of calm and meditation as you reprogram your body to your new healthy lifestyle.

Cautions
Slim & Sassy is safe to use aromatically, topically or internally when used as directed. Because it contains citrus essential oils that may increase photosensitivity in the skin, it is recommended that you avoid sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after topical application. Do not use directly in eyes, ears, or nose. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician.

Additional Information
This year we are introducing Personal Fundraising Pages where you can have everyone you know (your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc) help raise money for CAPSA! They can each donate a small amount to help you reach your goal, and we will give out prizes for the participants and teams who raise the most money.

There is no required amount you have to raise beyond the initial registration fee, but every little bit will help us better serve our clients at CAPSA.
Plus this year you don’t have to be the fastest runner for a chance at prizes—we are adding a new category of prizes for the Top 3 Individuals and Top 3 Teams that raise the most money through your personal fundraising pages. All you need is a lot of friends and family to help you reach and exceed your fundraising goals, and you will have a chance at some great prizes! Plus any team that raises over $2,500 and any individual that raises over $1,000 will automatically get a great prize.

Positive Thought for the Day

Natural and regular outcomes for me are ones of success and achievement.

Healing Stones

Just wanted to share if anyone is interested in learning more about healing stones and how they work, my very favorite resources and ones that I turn to often is Judy Hall's Crystal Prescriptions, along with her Crystal Bible.  They are both fantastic and full of information and easy to understand.  There is much more information in the Crystal Bible than there is in the Crystal Prescriptions.  The Prescriptions book lists ailments and then tells you which stones would be good to use for that ailment.  The Crystal Bible lists most of the common stones and some that are not so common, and tells you about them, and how they work, and what they work best for.  I use both books a lot in what I do work with the healing stones and jewelry.
